The world of technology never stops moving, and we wanted to provide a brief explanation about a recent software update that may affect some of our users.

But first, a little bit of background…

As you may already be aware, web developer Adobe is planning to phase out the Adobe Flash platform. The tech company announced this back in July 2017 and it’s for a variety of reasons, including declining usage and the availability of superior alternatives.

This is no mean feat, as Adobe Flash is a multimedia software program that’s still used every day to support millions of websites, video games and programs, including LiteracyPlanet.

So what’s happening?

Now Adobe certainly hasn’t been in a rush to flick the switch to Flash off completely, but it has slowly been making announcements that affect the platform’s users. The latest announcement has indicated that Flash will be disabled by default on the Chrome web browser platform from July 2019.

And what does this mean?

Flash has to be enabled to be used on a web browser. From July onward, the default setting for Chrome users will have Flash disabled. So if you’ve been using a program that requires Flash, you will have to re-enable it.

Will I still be able to use LiteracyPlanet?

The good news is you will certainly still be able to use LiteracyPlanet! Flash can be re-enabled with a couple of click in your Google Chrome settings, just by clicking the three dots in the top right-hand corner of your browser.
