Five Tips for Embedding Tech in Your Classroom

We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” - David Warlick

If you’re looking for a few quick and easy tips to further embed technology into your classroom, here you go!

1. Incorporate students thoughts, ideas, and feedback through poling or collaboration

With a few computers or mobile devices, you can tap into quick, easy polling applications like PollDaddy and PollEverywhere to gather student feedback and input. A shared Google doc where students collaborate can do the same thing.

2. Update/digitize your lessons

Update your lesson plans, exercises, demonstrations by taking full advantage of technology. You can incorporate multimedia options like photos, audio, YouTube, Google tools like Google Maps, Google Earth, or Google Arts & Culture resources…the possibilities these days are truly endless!

3. Invest some time in tech training.

Whether for yourself or your students, the benefits of Tech training are never lost.  There are a plethora of free tech training tools and resources available, literally, at your fingertips! A curious student or teacher with a desire to learn and an internet connection can learn anything.

4. Embed tech training into class lessons.

Not every student is tech-savvy just because they’re young. You can teach the whole class them some key tech tips and learn some of the basics together.  Whether it’s inserting page numbers, formatting a photo, or collaborating on a report, there are lots of useful tips you can learn together.

5. Gamify lessons where you can

Encouraging engagement through gamification can be as easy as adding competitive components to a lesson, or forming teams, awarding points or badges for learning milestones, or setting students out on online scavenger hunts or even adding video components to explain a concept. Get creative and have some fun with gamification to engage and embed learning.

Want to harness the maximum power of technology in the classroom?  Then, integrate it seamlessly into your curriculum, rather than see it as yet another thing to do, an add-on, or an event.
